Charcuterie Boards
Course Description:
Learn the fundamentals of wood working in a controlled workshop with experienced crafts men supervising the students along every process. Learning how to use various hand tools, glueing techniques, clamping techniques. How to sand wood, working up the different grits and where to implement various sanding techniques. Applying food safe finishes to manufacture and care for a charcuterie board or cutting board.
Course Objectives:
Charcuterie board:
- De-bark: How to safely remove bark and other imperfections from live edge slabs/cookies
- Thickness plan: Bring the board to finish thickness using our thickness planner
- Sand: Work up the grits from 80-120-150 Gritt and how the different grits effect finish
- Oil: Learn about various finish options and when and where to use them safely
- After Care: How to maintain and care for your wooden products.
Cutting Board:
- Glue up staves: How much glue & clamping pressure to apply, how to prevent twist in the piece
- Thickness plane: Bring the board to finish thickness using our thickness planner
- Sand: Work up the grits from 80-120-150 Gritt and how the different grits effect finish
- Oil: Learn about various finish options and when and where to use them safely
- After Care: How to maintain and care for your wooden products.
Course Requirements:
All participants must attend our workshop safety seminar prior to attending the workshop. The safety seminars will be an hour long where at the beginning of the first workshop where our instructors discuss proper techniques and potential risks associated with working around the various tools used in the workshop.
All our participants are required to wear Steel toe shoes, ear, eye protective equipment at all times in the shop. Respiratory equipment will be required when sanding during particularly dusty environments.
Ear, Eye, and Respiratory Equipment will be provided for each course date.
Steel Toe boots are not provided but are required to work in the shop. Loaner boots can be provided upon request, for an additional rental fee of $25.00 per day.
All participants must read, sign and date the waiver of liability prior to participating in the workshop.
